Make-up policy:  There will be the opportunity to make-up exams only if the student has a valid excuse such as serious illness or other emergency with written documentation for missing the exam (notes from a physician, hospital, court etc).  This must be provided within one week of the absence.  Quizzes or discussion group assignments, unfortunately cannot be made-up, so if you know that you have to be absent, please let me know so something can be worked out.

***Disclaimer: By this statement, the instructor seeks to make clear to the student and other interested parties that this syllabus represents the best plan for the course, however, as with most plans it is subject to changes made necessary by time, space, and personnel constraints.  All changes made will be communicated in writing and/or verbally by the instructor.

Disability policy: The Vice Chancellor for Student Services has been designated as the Arkansas State University- Newport compliance coordinator for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Any student who requires special services should contact the Coordinator of Student Services.

Teaching Methods:

Lecture and open discussion supplemented by your readings will be the principal teaching methods used.  Students are encouraged to ask questions in class.  Remember no question is a dumb question!  Also, there will be incorporated some cooperative learning exercises, and use of information technology.  Be sure you have access to Internet and online resources.  If you do not have a home Internet account, you can sign up for free through the school.  Additionally, participation in fitness activities is required.

Student Responsibilities:   The student is responsible for attending every class and being there ON TIME.  If a student should miss class, he/she is responsible for obtaining the notes/material missed during that class.

Liability Statement:

This is a class which involves physical activity and there is always a risk of injury or accident.  Therefore, it is suggested that:

1.        You notify the instructor if there are any medical problems or physical disability that would limit your full                 participation in the class.

2.        Students over the age of 35 and those less than 35 who have any history of medical problems, either themselves or            in their family, consult with their physician to determine if they are "cleared" to fully participate in this class.
