Purpose of the Course:
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the teaching
of elementary school children. Students
will be introduced to various physical activities and will participate in those
activities. Students will also be
provided the opportunity to learn about fitness and wellness through online
materials as well as classroom and activity labs.
Course Description:
An introduction to the teaching of physical education to elementary
school children.
You will be required to meet once every other week to participate in labs and complete exams On Thursday at 3:00. All the lecture will occur online via this web site. Quizzes exist for each online lecture and due dates are provided below (left column). Additionally, you will be required to complete a lesson plan (see below) and turn it in the last scheduled day of class. Finally, the dates you will be required to be on campus (room CST 103) for labs and exams are listed below (right column). Please make arrangements to attend ON CAMPUS these days as these days cannot be made up!

Your final will be given during regular scheduled semester calendars. Check the schedule. No one will be allowed to take the final late. If you have a schedule conflict contact me early enough to have taken the exam BEFORE the final date.

Class Attendance
and Make-up Work: Attendance
is mandatory. Participation is
necessary in order to pass the class. Each
class period is worth points toward your participation grade.
Scheduled tests and activities will not be changed and anyone not
participating will not be allowed to make them up.
If you know in advance that you will have a conflict with a test, you may
contact the instructor IN ADVANCE and discuss the issue with him.
In some cases, make-up tests may be allowed if notice is given IN
ADVANCE. The teacher is not
responsible for providing you with any missed work or lecture notes.
Make-up policy:
There will be the opportunity to make-up exams only if the student has a
valid excuse such as serious illness or other emergency with written
documentation for missing the exam (notes from a physician, hospital, court
etc). This must be provided within
one week of the absence. Quizzes or
discussion group assignments, unfortunately cannot be made-up, so if you know
that you have to be absent, please let me know so something can be worked out.

Teaching Methods:
Lecture and open discussion
supplemented by your readings will be the principal teaching methods used.
Students are encouraged to ask questions in class.
Remember no question is a “dumb
question!”
Also, there will be incorporated some cooperative learning exercises, and
use of information technology. Be
sure you have access to Internet and online resources.
If you do not have a home Internet account, you can sign up for free
through the school. Additionally,
participation in fitness activities is required.
Student
Responsibilities: The
student is responsible for attending every class and being there ON TIME.
If a student should miss class, he/she is responsible for obtaining the
notes/material missed during that class.
Liability Statement:
This is a class which involves physical activity and there is always a risk of injury or accident. Therefore, it is suggested that:
1. You notify the instructor if there are any medical problems or physical disability that would limit your full participation in the class.
2. Students over the age of 35 and those less than 35 who have any history of medical problems, either themselves or in their family, consult with their physician to determine if they are "cleared" to fully participate in this class.
3. Each student carry health insurance.
