Course Description and Rationale:
The course is a study of the nature and development of children from pre-birth to the middle years of child hood. It includes physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development. Students preparing to work with children need to understand clearly the complex, dynamic process of development in children. This knowledge can lead to having realistic expectations for children, can help us respond appropriately to children's actual behavior, and can help us recognize when departures from normal are truly significant.
